The name “Coomera” is Aboriginal for “croaking frog”. The Upper Coomera area is predominantly residential. It is one of the most northerly developed areas in the Gold Coast Hinterland. The border between Upper Coomera and Coomera is at the Queensland Rail train line that runs from Beenleigh to Gold Coast Airport. The Coomera River runs from the north-east to the south-west through the suburb. The river’s headwater tributaries are found in the hinterland (mountain ranges) to the north. The river is an important source of potable water for south-east Queensland and is the only major river in south-east Queensland that has its source in the hinterland.

The Coomera Shopping Village is the largest shopping centre in Upper Coomera and also one of the largest in the wider Coomera area. It boasts around 100 specialty stores. There are also a couple of supermarkets in the area. You’ll find Coles on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Smithers Road and Woolworths in the Coomera Shopping Village. You’ll also find a number of other shops and services in the area, including ATM’s, a pharmacy, and a liquor store. If you want to go shopping in Coomera, you’ll find a smaller shopping centre on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Smithers Road. The Coomera Central shopping centre offers a variety of shops, including an IGA supermarket, a newsagent, a Chinese restaurant, and a pharmacy.
